When: June 23-28, 2013
Where: The Nature Place, 2000 Old Stage Road, Florissant, CO 80816
What: Wildfire is scientific, fascinating, relevant, emotional and natural. Explore and receive fire activities, kits, trunks, experiments, videos, cds, posters and more. Experience field and research-based activities while learning about fire, insects, and drought from fire and resource professionals. Visit and study fire sites and mitigation efforts and experience inquiry experiments. Ideal for teachers of grades 4-12. Read reflections from last year's participants here.
The Waldo Canyon, Springer and Hayman fires provide the backdrop to our explorations. Agenda includes field studies, technology, lesson planning, literature, multimedia, GIS and more. Take home a cache of materials and resources including Project Learning Tree activity guides, kits, experiments, posters, dvds and information on grant opportunities.
Collaboratively presented by the Colorado State Forest Service and the Colorado Geographic Alliance (COGA)
Leaders: Shawna Crocker (CSFS/PLT) and Steve Jennings (COGA)
Cost: $50; includes all meals, lodging, materials, transportation, instruction. Other costs paid for by National Fire Plan Grant. $500 stipend available upon completion.
